Infinity Blade

Typically when it comes to my iphone 4, I watch movies on netflix or crunchy roll streaming and/or listen to music on Pandora. I find it hard actually find a game that works well with my phone. I have some insanely awesome classic games like Sonic and Gunstar Heroes, but the lack of textile buttons makes the game play not just difficult but annoying. I've also spent money and downloaded games like Civilization and Final Fantasy, but end up playing the 0.99 cent or free games. Time is also a major factor in that case.

When the iphone 4 was first announced, Infinity Blade was a demoed game with major backing that was made specifically for the iphone. The 5.99 price point and the lack of wifi when I'm bored enough to want it, had kept me from downloading this game.

Now I finally have it, and conclude it's seriously addicting. The graphics are amazing and the controls were definitely made for the iphone. You play a knight who invades this castle to kill the evil leader who killed your father. As you make your way through the dungeon you fight a succession of bosses. While fighting you can swipe your finger in either direction to make your person dodge in that direction. Swiping in the direction of a blade swing parries the attack while swiping in any other motion makes your character swing out with his sword in the direction you swiped. You also have magic spells that when enabled you write out the symbol for the spell on your screen to cast. The first few levels are pretty easy, well except for the main boss(I wont spoil it). Although every time you come back the bosses are harder and trickier than they were the previous time you fought them.

Hacking a Password Protected Iphone

   For those who may or may not know, it’s possible to setup a password on your iphone.  This way, if someone gets their hands on your phone, they wont have access to any of your information.  Now a way to bypass that password has surfaced.  By pressing certain things in sequence on the emergency call screen, a thief can gain access to all of your contacts, voicemails, and history.  They don’t get access to the rest of the phone, but I think we can agree that your contacts and voicemails are most important to keep private.

   Below is the video I found in a link on twitter.  Go ahead and try the hack on your own iphone, I did :)  If you get stuck and can’t back out of the screen, just call a phone number and then cancel it.  This will send you back to the passcode screen.

UStream

So here's a quick demo of the UStream app here on my blog. I was undecided whether I should post my youtube channel or my ustream channel... but ultimately ustream was a lot cooler. If you take a look at the ustream app, more than likely it says it's offline and will have links to past videos. If it says someone is online and has a play button, then that means I am currently streaming something live from my webcam or iphone. I don't even have to save the video for it to show on ustream, I can just be streaming it live on my phone, and the best part, it's free! :) When you watch the video embedded below, keep an eye on the ustream app in the video.. you will be able to get an idea on how it works with my phone.

Jailbroken Iphone

I don't know why it's taken me so long to jailbreak my iphone being as curious as I am. I think it was the scare of bricking my only phone aka lifeline :) , that has kept me from doing it. The thought of playing mario and older NES games on my iphone is what one me over. Plus I read up on some things to do at the command line that I found really intriguing.

If you are considering jailbreaking your iphone, think about why you want to do it first and if it's possible to do without jailbreaking. It's awesome to have an open and "FREE!" iphone, but it's now also open to more security threats. Not to mention that you may end up turning your iphone into a fancy paperweight.

If I haven't scared you yet, and you still want to jailbreak your iphone, I'll point you to some of the sources that I used when Jailbreaking my iphone. Now mind you my iphone is version 3.1.2. If you are an older version of iphone you may want to update it before applying the hack. There have been reports of problems where iphones that were jailbroken, not working after the update.

I used a program called Blackrain to jailbreak the iphone. It's very simple to do and was in fact done from a computer that wasn't my main one. Firstly have your iphone connected to your computer with it's cord. Then download and run the blackrain program. A simple box with one button will open up...click the button. Voila your phone is cracked :) yes that simple.

Now your phone is going to reboot, and you will notice that the blackra1n pic shows while your iphone loads.. don't panic and yell hax! it's ok. When your iphone is finally booted all the way up and you are logged in; you will find an application titled blackra1n. Go ahead and run that app. It will give you 3 options, select hacker. You will need the command line to change your root password later. When it came to packages, I downloaded the cydia package. You also have the option here to unlock your iphone so you can use it on different carriers other than ATT

Your basically done and free to do whatever you want with your phone. I recommend you poke around the packages and find things to install and play with. I also have links at the bottom of this post that you should look through. They talk about securing your iphone now that you've made it a little more vulnerable.

Iphone 3g S!!

Apple's new phone, the Iphone 3g S, is slated to come out soon. It is also going to be release at a competable price, only $199 for the smallest 16 gig device. That's what I paid for my 8 gig 3g, the morning of it's release. Also, sadly, my phone costs $99 dollars now -_- . This pricing is a result of all the new smart phones hitting the market soon, such as the new palm pre that is dubbed the iphone killer. A lot of what is advertised for the new phone, I will get for mine on the next patch to come out soon. That would be things like tethering support, cut and paste, and my favorite, better SMS support!! Even though I'm going to get a lot of new goodies in my phones next update, I still want the new 3g S, because of 2 other features. Those 2 other features, are a better more advanced camera, and the ability to record and edit video! These are the 2 biggest hardware related complaints from all iphone users since day one.

The camera has an advanced system to automatically focus on objects dependent on their distance away from you. You can also touch anywhere on the screen to have the camera focus on that obect.

The video you record can be edited and mailed to your friends all from your phone. When editing video, each frame pops up separately for your splicing pleasure.

Now with these phones comes a new heated debate. Most iphone 3G users, want to trade in their "old" 3g, for the new 3g S. But they would have to pay double the price, because they are still locked into a 2 year contract with ATT and haven't hit the point where they can upgrade their phone. I think that right there is going to knock out a large core of the demographic whom are going to purchase the new 3gS.

My biggest problem is tethering. I wish ATT would allow us to tether out phones. I mean the phone is going to support it with the next update, but I'm not going to be able to use it. Japan has tethering!!

Iphone Ringtone How To

SO, HOW TO MAKE AN IPHONE RING TONE  itunes 8 only

this is also a trick that is used on songs without DRM protection.  So these would be songs off of cd's that you ripped, or acquired through a friend *cough*

-first you have scrounge your library for that epic song you want

-next, right click on the song and click get info

-search through the tabs until you find the one where you can change your songs starting and ending time

-ringtones can only be 40 seconds or less.  so for my epic metallica intro, i checked the box on starting time and left it at zero.  Then I checked the box for ending time, and set it at 0:40.

-you can close that box now that your times are set

-next right click on the song, and select convert to AAC.  You will see a duplicate file made of the same name, but only 40 seconds long.

-Now go back to your original song and uncheck those timing boxes, you don't want your song stuck on that guitar solo do u??  ;)

-Now drag your duplicate song from your itunes --> onto your desktop,  and delete it from your library

-Now change the extension of your duplicate to .m4r ... cuz right now it should be like .m4* something.

-once you've change the extension, go ahead and drag the ringtone back to your library.

- When you drag it over, you'll see that library is highlighted, and once you drop the ringtone in your library it will autmatically show in your ringtones folder.

- Now make sure you have your iphone set to sync ringtones, and sync away.
